About The French Collection: Durtal & Portobello Road Market | History Documentary | Reel Truth History

Three Brits visit a market in Avignon in southern France, before trying to sell for a profit in Bristol. French Collection is a daytime competition for Channel 4 (UK) where three amateur dealers with an eye for profit get a day at a French market, a set budget to spend and a veteran dealer on hand to provide his expert advice. Their challenge? To beat their rivals to buy vintage pieces and collectables that they think will make them the biggest profit back home. Spanning just three days, each of our competitors has one day to buy their items, one day to restore them, and one day to sell them for the highest possible price. Having scooped the best that the picturesque towns and villages’ markets have to offer, the three contestants return to their home countries where they have just one day to transform the items they have bought with the remainder of their budget: this is the point at which an old pair of armchairs get stylishly updated with some designer fabric; a dated brown chest of drawers

The global economy is a pyramid scheme | End of the Road (full documentary)

There was a time when one earner could support an entire family. However, due to escalating costs in the 1970s, it became necessary for wives to enter the workforce. By the 1990s, even two incomes were insufficient, leading families to abandon savings. By the 2000s, with both partners working and no savings, families began borrowing well beyond their means to cope with inflation. This documentary traces the global economic crisis from the Bretton Woods Agreement to the Nixon shock and the Occupy Wall Street movement. It reveals how the U.S. Federal Reserve has led not only the American economy but also the global economy to function much like a Ponzi scheme. Since the pandemic, debt expansion is out of control.
