Discover unpublished and rarely seen photographs from the Battle of Berlin in 1945, brought together in an exclusive collection for history enthusiasts. More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. World War II transformed the United States from a power trying to stay out of the European conflict into one of the most powerful military forces in history. While Germany was conquering much of Europe and Japan was expanding its dominance across Asia and the Pacific, Washington progressively supported the Allies with weapons, supplies, and economic aid. However, everything changed on December 7, 1941, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The following day, the United States declared war on Japan, and a few days later, Germany and Italy declared war on the United States. The country officially entered a war that had already changed the world. Starting in 1942, the United States had to fight simultaneously on two massive theaters of war. In the Pacific, its forces faced the Japanese Empire in decisive battles such as Midway

Inside Mao’s China: The Great Leap Forward And The Cultural Revolution

The Chinese Chairman Mao Zedong once declared the death of 300 million of his own people would be a price worth paying. Supreme Leader of China for almost 3 decades, his merciless policies made him one of the most ruthless tyrants of the 20th Century. A communist leader obsessed by power and violence; a sadist intoxicated by others’ pain; and a dictator convinced that politics had to be violent. He presided over the deaths of more people than Hitler and Stalin combined. Those who dared oppose him paid the price in the most cruel way imaginable. China’s needless deaths were so great in number, the total may never be known. This is the story of a sadistic autocrat addicted to brutality, from his communist roots, through his reign of cruelty and revenge, to a position of authority so great, his personality cult remains to this day. -- Welcome to the official Get.factual the original video platform channel! 🌍 We are a documentary streaming channel covering history, science, technology, and nature. 1644: The Complete Story of The First English Civil War

In late 1643, the fate of the English Civil War hung in the balance. With King Charles I on the defensive, both the Royalists (Cavaliers) and Parliamentarians (Roundheads) scrambled for foreign allies to deliver a decisive blow. While Charles sought recruits in Catholic Ireland, Parliament struck a game-changing alliance: The Solemn League and Covenant with Scotland. In January 1644, Alexander Leslie, Earl of Leven, led an army of 20,000 Scottish Covenanters across the border. What followed was a brutal northern campaign that culminated on July 2, 1644, at the Battle of Marston Moor - the largest and bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil. Watch this documentary to explore how religious division, political brinkmanship, Oliver Cromwell's Ironsides, and the desperate march of Prince Rupert collided to crush the Royalist hold on the North and set King Charles I on the path to inevitable defeat. 💚 Join the Absolute History club to get access to exclusive member benefits! 📺 You can now become a History Hit member right here on the original video platform! How Gaddafi Became The World's Most Dangerous Dictator

Throughout the course of history, there have been many viciously cruel dictators, but few as deranged as Muammar Gaddafi, the man President Reagan dubs The Mad Dog of the Middle East. For over 40 years the Libyan despot terrifies, tortures and tricks the world with one horrific act after another. This is the story of Colonel Gaddafi, the Middle East’s longest serving dictator from his roots as an idealistic young revolutionary in 1969, to becoming one of the world’s most deadly terrorists. Mixing dramatic reconstruction with archive and testimony, this film shows how his quest to be taken seriously as an international statesman drives him to commit increasingly insane atrocities at home and abroad. It explains how he ends up an international pariah and reveals how his delusions of grandeur will lead to his downfall in 2011. -- Welcome to the official Get.factual the original video platform channel! 🌍 We are a documentary streaming channel covering history, science, technology, and nature. Black people in Nazi Germany - Lionel Romney's survival in a concentration camp

Afro-Caribbean sailor Lionel Romney survived eleven months in a concentration camp. His story illustrates how Black people were systematically persecuted under the Nazi regime. Lionel Romney was born in Santo Domingo in 1912 and raised on Sint Maarten. As a young man, he signed on to a cargo ship to see the world. But his longing for freedom turned into a tragic odyssey. Caught up in the turmoil of World War II, his ship came under fire and sunk. The crew survived. But Lionel was taken prisoner by the Italians. After years in various camps, he was eventually deported to the Mauthausen concentration camp. He survived there for eleven months, before American troops liberated the camp. Decades after the war, Lionel Romney entrusted his memories to his daughter, Mary. Her journey from the Caribbean through Italy to Austria forms the framework of the film, which shines a light on a chapter of European history that has been suppressed to this day: the reality of life for Black people under National Socialism. This reality was marked by colonial continuities, racism, forced

Why New York City Will NEVER Win the War Against Rats | NYC Revealed

Rats: New York has long been known as one of the rattiest cities in America with some estimating close to 2 million rodents roam its streets. Both city workers and residents have been waging a never-ending battle against these four-legged friends. Here is how New York City rats out its rodents. Trash: Many things come to mind when thinking about New York City, but how the city deals with its garbage is usually not one of them. New Yorkers produce over 14 million tons of trash each year - and a combination of city agencies and private companies work daily to haul away what New Yorkers don't want. Sewage: Underneath the ground of New York's fabled streets exists a vast network of pipes that make up the city's sewer system. New Yorkers create, on average, 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater per day that makes its way through these 7,500 miles of pipes. More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. World War II from the British perspective is the story of a nation that began the conflict facing a threat that seemed to grow without limits. When Germany invaded Poland in September 1939, the United Kingdom declared war on the Third Reich, initiating a struggle that would last for nearly six years. Following the fall of France in 1940, the British stood virtually alone in Western Europe against German expansion. Under the leadership of Winston Churchill, the country prepared to resist a potential invasion while mobilizing all of its military, economic, and human resources. One of the decisive moments came with the Battle of Britain, when the Royal Air Force clashed with the Luftwaffe for control of the skies. At the same time, London and other British cities endured intense bombings during the Blitz. But the

More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. The Third Reich was much more than Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Between 1933 and 1945, Germany was progressively transformed into a dictatorship in which state institutions, party organizations, security forces, and different sectors of society were subjected to a deeply complex authoritarian system. Although Hitler concentrated ultimate authority, beneath him lay a massive structure made up of ministers, regional leaders, bureaucrats, military officials, and organizations that constantly competed for power and influence. Inside the regime, traditional institutions coexisted with new organizations created or controlled by the Nazis. The Nazi Party, the SS, the Gestapo, the SD, and numerous administrative bodies carried out different and sometimes overlapping functions. At the same time, figures such as Heinrich Himmler, Hermann Göring, Joseph Goebbels, and Martin Bormann built their own spheres of influence around Hitler. This internal competition

Actress Vanessa L Williams, who faced racial prejudice when she became the first black woman to be crowned Miss America, goes on the trail of two of her ancestors who fought courageously to extend the rights and freedoms of black people in the USA. Her ancestor David Carll was one of the first to enlist after the ban on black soldiers serving on the Union side of the Civil War was lifted and, at the National Archives in Washington, DC, Vanessa uncovers an unbelievably rare tintype photograph of him. Going further back, Vanessa uncovers another ancestor, William A Fields, who not only went from slave to schoolteacher in little more than 20 years, but ended up serving as a legislator in the Tennessee National Assembly. Through the pioneering work of her ancestor, Vanessa is able to see how in the nineteenth century black people briefly glimpsed the possibility of human rights before the segregation laws, violence and intimidation of the Ku Klux Klan closed that door again. It would be nearly 100 years before another African-American would be elected to

What We’ll Eat When the World Runs Out of Food | ENDEVR Documentary In 2050, there will be 9.5 billion people to feed on Earth. This will be a huge challenge for mankind as the lack of arable land and global warming burden our food industry. The solution? Including insects in our diet! Two billion people worldwide already consume insects. Adding this new type of food to Western diets could reduce pollution from our food and farming industries. Several companies have taken the plunge and started this unprecedented style of farming, but inventing a new form of food industry that could feed a large population raises a good number of problems. What species will best suit nutritional needs? How will insects react to intensive farming? At the other end of the production line, advertisers and marketing specialists also have to demonstrate a certain amount of creativity. How can they make a maggot look tasty? A grasshopper look appetizing? They will need to change the Western vision of insects and get people to put aside hundreds of years of cultural prejudice

During World War II, drugs played a much more important role than usually appears in traditional accounts of the conflict. Millions of soldiers fought under extreme conditions of exhaustion, fear, hunger, and sleep deprivation, and several armies resorted to stimulant substances to keep their men awake and operational for long periods. Germany was one of the most famous cases with Pervitin, a methamphetamine distributed among members of the Wehrmacht, especially during the rapid campaigns of the war's early years. However, the consumption of stimulants was not exclusively German: the Allies also used substances such as Benzedrine, based on amphetamines. During campaigns such as the invasion of France in 1940 or Operation Barbarossa in 1941, some German soldiers could remain awake for extraordinarily long periods thanks to Pervitin. These substances temporarily reduced the feeling of fatigue and

Why Myths Glorify War: Romulus, Valkyries, Hector, Vlad the Impaler

From Rome’s founding fratricide to Valkyries on the battlefield, war’s oldest stories still shape us. But what are these myths really saying about who we are? We trace the blood-and-belief behind legendary conflicts: Romulus and Remus turning brotherhood into statecraft, Viking raids from Lindisfarne and the fear that followed, the eerie Valkyries choosing the fallen, and the Iliad’s quietest heartbreak with Hector and Andromache. Then we confront propaganda and power with Vlad the Impaler’s grisly legend and why it refused to die. Along the way, Ireland’s Book of Invasions and the Norse sagas reveal how cultures justify violence, sanctify sacrifice, and soften grief. Some tales glorify. Others grieve. All of them teach. Watch to discover how myths turn chaos into meaning, why certain stories survived while others were rewritten, and what these legends expose about courage, cruelty, and the price paid for glory. Stay to the end for the twist that flips cause and effect in Rome’s origin story.

More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. During World War II, the armed forces of Nazi Germany developed an extensive hierarchical structure designed to organize millions of men distributed among different branches and units. The Wehrmacht was mainly composed of the Heer (the army), the Kriegsmarine, and the Luftwaffe, each with its own ranks and particularities. In parallel, there were organizations such as the SS and, within it, the Waffen-SS, which featured a different hierarchy. Understanding these ranks allows an understanding of who gave the orders, who led the units, and how the massive military machine of the Third Reich operated. In the Heer, the structure began with private soldiers and lower ranks, such as Schütze and Gefreiter, and continued with different categories of non-commissioned officers, including Unteroffizier, Feldwebel, and Oberfeldwebel. These men formed a fundamental piece in the daily operation of units

How World War II Created Modern Aviation

The history of aviation is a perpetual race. At no other time did more aircraft dominate the skies than during the Second World War. In the battle for supremacy in the skies, aircraft became a destructive weapon. Loaded with bombs and ammunition, they provided fear and terror from the air. It is the gruesome story of kamikaze pilots, ""Stukas"" and fighter planes, but also of ground-breaking technical achievements, such as the invention of the jet engine, which was to revolutionise aviation. In the civilian sector, too. Within a few decades, flying changed from an exclusive pleasure of a few to an almost everyday, mass means of transport. The second part of the documentary traces these developments - from the Second World War to the challenges facing aviation today. -- Welcome to the official Get.factual the original video platform channel! 🌍 We are a documentary streaming channel covering history, science, technology, and nature. More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. When the Second World War began in September 1939, aviation immediately became one of the decisive weapons of the conflict. During the invasion of Poland, the German Luftwaffe demonstrated the power of using aircraft in close coordination with ground forces, attacking airfields, communications, troop concentrations, and cities. Months later, this strategy was employed again during the campaigns in Norway, the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. However, in the summer of 1940, Germany encountered an enemy it could not defeat through rapid ground advances alone. During the Battle of Britain, hundreds of British and German fighters fought daily over the English Channel and British territory. The Luftwaffe attempted to destroy the RAF and subsequently bombed London and other cities, but Britain resisted. For the first time, Hitler had encountered a major obstacle to continuing his expansion. In 1941

The Secret Spy War That Helped Win World War II

In World War II, success wasn't just about frontline weaponry; espionage and intelligence played crucial roles. Devices like the Enigma and codebreakers like the Bombe were as vital as tanks and guns. Weapons were designed for partisans and assassins, made for stealth and ease of hiding. More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. When World War II ended in 1945, Germany was a destroyed country, occupied by the victorious powers and divided into different administrative zones. The eastern region fell under the control of the Soviet Union, while millions of people tried to rebuild their lives amid flattened cities, food shortages, and a virtually paralyzed economy. In 1949, the German Democratic Republic was officially born, known as East Germany or the GDR, a socialist state closely tied to Moscow. The new government nationalized much of the industry, promoted agrarian reforms, and reorganized society following the Soviet model. Berlin also remained divided, and although the eastern part became the capital of the GDR, West Berlin continued to be an enclave controlled by Western powers right in the middle of East German territory.
