About South Africa’s BMX Prodigy Grows Up Under Pressure | Sport Kids Documentary

There are great expectations upon Anita Zenani — a South African township girl — being a junior champion in BMX. The pressure is starting to weigh heavily on her shoulders. The last couple of years have been extremely intensive for her. With hard training and competition, as well as growing popularity and wide coverage of Anita’s success on local TV and in newspapers, the expectations might be a monster growing into a giant rather than an encouragement and inspiration. Lately, Anita has been struggling to find the motivation to train. As the only girl in the club, it's hard for her to keep up with the physically stronger boys. She starts to feel like an outsider, with no one to talk to about her frustrations. Her coach is dissatisfied with her lack of commitment and poor performance. At the same time, there is a whole new world out there. Anita is turning into a teenager, wanting to find time just to hang out with her friends and fit in. It has become hard for her to be seen as a

China's unloved Kids: What happens to the children of Death Row Inmates?

Children of Shame | Investigate Asia Miao Miao, her brother Xiaolong, and Xin Liao are some of the luckier kids who live in the Sun Villages created by Mrs. Zhang Shuqin. But in reality, they have a heavy past and present to cope with. As the other young dwellers there, they are the offspring of people sentenced to death. This documentary shows the lives and daily routines of these children and their benefactors over two years. Many of the people sentenced to death leave behind young orphans who are not taken care of at all by social services, even when their families or relatives cannot afford to do it. Also, these vulnerable children are generally despised and rejected by the rest of the community – and are not eligible for adoption. Because as a famous Chinese proverb says: «tigers do not bear puppies». Like Florence Nightingale, one woman, Mrs. Zhang Shuqin, has decided to turn the children’s destiny into her life’s struggle. She has set up ten orphanages to raise them. In these orphanages, called «Sun Villages», everybody works hard

How much oil is left - and what happens when the world’s most important energy source becomes harder, riskier and more expensive to extract? This compelling energy documentary investigates the global dependence on crude oil, the theory of peak oil and the environmental dangers of deep-sea drilling. Beginning with the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, it examines how technological failures, financial pressure and difficult drilling conditions contributed to one of the worst oil spills in history. Travel from oil fields in Austria and Saudi Arabia to research centres in Europe, Canadian oil sands and offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Scientists, geologists, engineers and industry experts reveal how oil is formed, how new reserves are discovered and why many of the world’s largest oil fields may be declining. The documentary also explores enhanced oil recovery, horizontal drilling, water injection, polymer technology, Arctic exploration and the enormous financial and environmental costs of extracting unconventional oil.
