About 2012 and the end of the world | "2012: The Beginning" - Documentary on the sacred Maya texts

December 21, 2012. This date, identified by the Maya nearly 1,400 years ago, has in recent years become the source of great curiosity and debate. Some believed it would bring catastrophic events. Others, an era of enlightenment. But what did the ancient Maya themselves believe? In "2012: The Beginning", we travel the world to examine what the Sacred Maya texts really say. Original title: 2012: The Beginning © 2012, Licensed by First Hand Films At the ruins of Copán, Honduras, we go where few individuals and even fewer cameras have gone: 20 meters underground, to the spectacularly preserved, 1,600-year-old Margarita Temple. In Dresden, Germany, we slip through a golden, hieroglyph-covered door and enter a darkened room containing some of the world’s most significant books from four millennia—including the famed Dresden Codex, one of only three remaining authenticated manuscripts of the ancient Maya, and the earliest known book from the Americas. In the Highlands of Guatemala, the veil is lifted from the mysterious world of Maya shamanism. And in México, we examine the little-seen Tortuguero Monument 6, the only known inscription

Oil: The Race for the Last Reserves | The Struggle for Oil - Geological Deceptions (Full Film)

How much oil is left - and what happens when the world’s most important energy source becomes harder, riskier and more expensive to extract? This compelling energy documentary investigates the global dependence on crude oil, the theory of peak oil and the environmental dangers of deep-sea drilling. Beginning with the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, it examines how technological failures, financial pressure and difficult drilling conditions contributed to one of the worst oil spills in history. Travel from oil fields in Austria and Saudi Arabia to research centres in Europe, Canadian oil sands and offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Scientists, geologists, engineers and industry experts reveal how oil is formed, how new reserves are discovered and why many of the world’s largest oil fields may be declining. The documentary also explores enhanced oil recovery, horizontal drilling, water injection, polymer technology, Arctic exploration and the enormous financial and environmental costs of extracting unconventional oil. It investigates the use of chemical dispersants during the Deepwater Horizon cleanup and questions their impact on marine ecosystems and human

Love and Marriage in Orthodox Jewish communities | A Match Made in Heaven - Part 3/3 examines the specific people, events and evidence presented in this documentary. Film starts at 0:35. For the first time, Orthodox Jewish people in Israel allow a camera to enter their personal lives on an intimate level, enabling us to discover the wisdom behind their way of life, in the potential hope that we can apply some of it to ours. We take a look at relationships between men and women, between singles and their friends, and between them and their families. The story follows the protagonists on their quests for love, across a chronological series of dates. Dating and matchmaking in the "Haredi" (ultra-Orthodox Jewish) world has always been mysterious and intriguingly different from the secular world. At a time when the institution of marriage in the modern secular world is about to go bankrupt – increasing divorce rates, infidelity, the trend of extended bachelorhood, single parenting, etc. – the question arises: where are we going wrong? And what is it about Haredi relationships

Saint-Martin, 1700 years of sharing (Documentary of 2016)

In the harsh winter of 324, a dazzling cavalry officer from the Roman Imperial Guard stop his horse in front of a nearly naked man, then take from his shoulders his immense white cloak, made from two pieces of fabric, one lined with sheepskin, and separate the two parts with his sword to make the unfortunate wretch warm. His charitable gesture contains all the force of this emblematic character from the dawn of Western Christianity. In 2016, we shall be celebrating the 1700th anniversary of this exemplary Christian's birth, and it's a moment to take full stock of the legacy of this soldier, monk, exorcist, bishop and pilgrim. This film gives a voice to those who are in the best position to speak about this Saint, regarded as the founder of a certain unity in Gaul, and who would be worshiped by the kings of France from Clovis to Charlemagne. Churchmen and committed citizens will give their views on the meaning of "sharing", "mercy" and "charity". Today, political, religious, and philosophical discourse is still hungry for the concept of sharing.
