More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. The SS grew into one of the most powerful and feared organizations in Nazi Germany, but behind its apparent hierarchical structure lay a complex struggle for power. Officially, Heinrich Himmler was the Reichsführer-SS and the supreme head of the organization. Under his direction, the SS evolved from a small bodyguard unit linked to the Nazi Party into a vast police, repressive, and military apparatus that included the Gestapo, the concentration camp system, and, during the war, the Waffen-SS. However, within that system, Reinhard Heydrich quickly rose to prominence. As head of the Sicherheitsdienst (SD) and later the Reich Main Security Office (RSHA), Heydrich accumulated immense power over the intelligence services and the security police. The Gestapo, Criminal Police, and SD were all integrated under his structure. His organizational talent and access to sensitive information turned him

More than 200 historical photographs take you through the final days of the Third Reich and reveal scenes rarely shown in documentaries. The Battle of Guadalcanal, fought between August 1942 and February 1943, marked a decisive turning point in the Pacific War. Following months of Japanese expansion, the United States launched its first major land offensive against the Empire of Japan. The primary objective was to prevent Japan from completing an airfield on Guadalcanal, in the Solomon Islands, from which it could threaten the vital sea lanes connecting the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. On August 7, 1942, thousands of U.S. Marines landed on the island and swiftly secured the airfield, later designated Henderson Field. The Japanese reaction was immediate and relentless. Tokyo dispatched troops, warships, and aircraft to recapture Guadalcanal, initiating a brutal six-month campaign of attrition. On land, American forces had to endure fierce nocturnal assaults, tropical diseases, severe supply shortages, and punishing terrain. Clashes

Why We Can Reach Pluto but Struggle to Fly Above the Sun

Hey guys! We’re now live on Spotify 🎧 Right now, you are flying around the Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour. You feel nothing. Yet that speed is the reason the Sun is so hard to reach. Here is the strange part. We sent a spacecraft 3 billion miles to Pluto in under 10 years. But falling into the Sun, our own star, takes more energy than leaving the solar system entirely. And flying over the top of the Sun? For most of the space age, it seemed close to impossible. Every planet, every probe, every rocket we launch is trapped in one flat disk around the star. Climbing out of that disk is one of the hardest moves in space travel. Tonight, we ride with a probe that dove through the Sun's burning outer air. We swing around Venus again and again. We use giant Jupiter as a slingshot. And we finally see the Sun's hidden poles for the very first time. If you want to hear our videos earlier and without ads, come find us on Spotify.
