After WW2, rumors circulated about Nazis dumping gold in Lake Toplitz, Austria, a remote, deep lake used by Nazis as a dumping site for stolen treasures. In 1959, a German journalist Wolfgang Lühr uncovered boxes of counterfeit British pound notes at the Austrian lake. Nazis used Operation Bernhard, led by SS officer Bernhard Krüger, to forge millions of pounds in an attempt to destabilize the British economy. But did the gold actually exist or was it just a myth?

Hitler sought the Spear of Destiny, believed to be the weapon that pierced Jesus Christ's side, as a symbol of power and invincibility. In 1938, after annexing Austria, Hitler seized the spear from a museum in Vienna, taking it to Nuremberg to reinforce his image as the successor to the Holy Roman emperors. Art historian and U.S. Army officer Walter Horn, a German émigré, was tasked with tracking down the spear after it vanished during World War II.
