We take a guided tour around an Austrian Christkindlmarkt to explore the true origins of our much-loved Christmas traditions. Despite the origins of Christmas coming from ancient Rome, the form they take today largely come from German speaking countries.

Operation Market Garden was the Allied operation to end the Second World War by Christmas 1944. The brainchild of Bernard Montgomery, it involved the combined use of airborne and armoured divisions carving a path through the Netherlands, securing several vital bridges, bypassing the formidable Siegfried Line and descending into Germany from the north. Huge cracks in the plan, however, soon caused it to crumble; a disaster ensued. In this documentary, Dan Snow visits Arnhem and the scenes of the vicious fighting.
