Germany was one of the most famous cases with Pervitin, a methamphetamine distributed among members of the Wehrmacht, especially during the rapid campaigns of the war's early years. However, the consumption of stimulants was not exclusively German: the Allies also used substances such as Benzedrine, based on amphetamines. During campaigns such as the invasion of France in 1940 or Operation Barbarossa in 1941, some German soldiers could remain awake for extraordinarily long periods thanks to Pervitin.
